DREDGING THE SAGINAW RIVER

PUBLIC NOTICE OF A MEETING TO DISCUSS ISSUES RELATED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY’S UPPER SAGINAW RIVER NAVIAGTIONAL DREDGING PROJECT AND ASSOCIATED DREDGED MATERIALS DISPOSAL FACILITY.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality announces a public meeting at 7:00 p.m., March 1, 2005 at Saginaw Valley State University, Performing Arts Center, Recital Hall, 7400 Bay Road, University Center MI 48710. (Parking is available in lot J1.)

DEQ staff will present the overall regulatory framework for the facility and status of DEQ permits. The meeting will allow the public an opportunity to informally discuss all aspects of the project with DEQ and Corps of Engineers staff.

Sorry for duplicate postings. This disposal facility does not belong in a floodplain. Please plan on attending and asking questions. DEQ was most accommodating in taking questions and engaging citizens at the previous meeting. I did inquire about Dow Chemical's possible interest in the use of the Zilwaukee site (since it was mentioned in the Dow-DEQ Framework) and will be forwarding information soon. Saginaw County officials have been less than candid about the matter.
