Editor, The News:
Recent coverage in The Saginaw News might lead one to believe that cleaning up the dioxin in the Tittabawassee River would be devastating to our community. There is concern for some trees that would be replanted.
Studies have shown that the land, fish, wildlife and humans are picking up this toxic chemical in significant amounts. Why wouldn't this community want to remove the dioxin? It's poison.
This might be the one and only chance we have to cleanse the Tittabawassee, and if we don't act now future generations still will be subject to the fish and wild game advisories. Property will continue to be part of the Dow Chemical facility.
Cooperation, and the knowledge that we are making a very positive difference in our local environment, would be quite a legacy to leave to our community.
Let's do the right thing. It might be our only chance.
