Awesome resources now contaminated

Saginaw News Editorial 10/26/03

As an avid fisherman and outdoors-man, I am dismayed at the recent findings of high dioxin concentrations in fish, duck eggs, and wildlife along the Tittabawassee River.

By all indications the dioxin has contaminated the Saginaw River and the Saginaw Bay.

Humans are at the top of the food chain and we are not immune from this contamination. On more than one fishing trip. I have caught walleye out of the Bay or Tittabawassee River with tumors and funny growths on them. I don't eat them and I would not feed them to my family.

It's a shame to live in an area with such awesome natural resources and know that it's contaminated with a toxic chemical. Dow Chemical needs to clean up its dioxin and the state needs to make them do it.
