Clean it up

Editor, The News:

I have lived on the Tittabawassee River for 18 years. I fish and canoe almost every week.

I have seen the changes in sediment when there is a flood or even a heavy rain. To say that if dredged this would stir up too much contaminants is wrong. I have witnessed an oily substance leaching into the water at various places in the river.

Dow Chemical Co. would have us believe that dredging the river would be more harmful than leaving it alone. In my opinion, dredging from Wickes Park to Midland could take five years and eliminate maybe 90 percent of dioxins, versus leaving it to leach into the water for the next 50 years.

Dow has no problem spending thousands and thousands of dollars in a public relations campaign on how they are concerned about the "human element."

I think it is time to prove it. Dow made this mess. Dow should clean it up!
